A SUN LIGHT TO THE IJAW NATION MARCHES TO GLORY.

Death is inevitable and necessary end that must come when it will come. It is also a common denominator, that neither the old nor the young; the good nor the bad ; the rich nor the poor; the fat nor the slim must embrace.
Against this backdrop , we can begin to understand that death has left an indelible mark in the hearts of men .

The glorious home call of our dearly beloved father High Chief (Dr.) O.B.Lulu-Briggs OON, DCF, DSSRS has created a vacuum in the Ijaw nation. Indeed, he lived a life of sacrifice and service to humanity. His philanthropy knew no bounds through the O.B. Lulu Briggs Foundation. I trust he will occupy an honorable status in Heaven , where he now sojourns .

May God bless and comfort his family, especially his successor CHIEF DUMO LULU BRIGGS , and indeed the
Ijaw nation.

TO THE PRICELESS FATHER OF HUMILITY THAT NATURE HAS BLESSED MANKIND WITH

To be able to talk about a man of good character is a Privilege.
Opuda as he was fondly called was an epitome of hardwork, love and selfless services to humanity. High Chief (DR) Olu Benson Briggs, Iniikeiroari the fifth of the Kalabari Kingdom and Paramount Head of Oruwari Briggs House of Abonnema, was a business mogul, an adventurer,an entrepreneur, a man of words, a man of peace, an husband and a son to the widows, a brother, a guidance, an adviser, a solicitor and a father to the young ones and sundry whose traits he successful transferred to his heir Chief Barr. Dumo Lulu Briggs.
When thinking about the title of this entry, I was indecisive and speechless about whether it should be โ€œTo a Great Man of Characterโ€ or โ€œTo a Man of Great Characterโ€. First, in the worldโ€™s eyes I donโ€™t know if daddy would be characterized as a โ€œGreat manโ€, in the general terms of incredible success professionally or in terms of good will. Most persons who knew daddy focused on who "HE WAS AS A PERSON". Indeed It was HIS SELFLESS CHARACTER that impacted others, and most who knew him (including myself) found themselves wanting to EMULATE HIM.
Iโ€™m not sure of the best way to put this but DADDY gave his life in the service of others. He was a PHILANTHROPIST whose ALTRUISM NATURE knows no bound, he was KIND, OBSERVANT, CHEERFUL, ATTENTIVE, KNOWLEDGEABLE, COMPASSIONATE, SUPPORTIVE and most of all VERY HUMBLE, he has EMPOWERED many people.
He is one man that is CHARITABLE, he provides humanitarian to people in rural areas, to the WIDOWS, to the CHILDREN, to the YOUTHS, to every single thing that has breath thereby FEEDING them, SPONSORING them, FUNDING SCHOLARSHIPS as well,
In one occasion he has spent some of his FOUNDATION money to develop modern TOILET SYSTEM and QUARTERS for INMATES of Port Harcourt PRISON.
His saving grace also reached out the STUDENTS of the UNIVERSITY of PORT HARCOURT as he built and donated HEALTH CARE CENTER for them.
His blessings has reached far and new, OLD and YOUNG, CITIZENS and NON-CITIZEN. The man was never a RACIST.
I never had the OPPORTUNITY to meet you in person, I've only seen your words in action, I've heard your name from the ones you've blessed even the ones that didn't get a chance also talks about you.
I wonder what KIND of MAN HE IS but HE REPRESENT THE "MAN I WISH TO BE IN WOMAN FORM".
Risen in Peace daddy
We love you and won't forget your sacrifices...
ABONNEMA CHILDREN WILL MISS YOU
ABONNEMA WIDOWS WILL MISS YOU
You've been an embodiment of Grace.
Thank you for your selfless services, i appreciate, they appreciate
Abonnema endlessly appreciate,
Kalabari appreciate,
The World heard of your foot print and has also given their appreciation..

High Chief and father to many, I may not have had a contact with you but the traits of love, compassion and kindness I see in your heir Chief DLB goes far to say you're indeed a father and a loving benefactor to many as a lion can never birth a lamb. Life is one thing no one can boast to have forever for if it were possible, we would drag you out of the cold hands of death.
You dedicated a chunk of your life to the service of man and men can't help but mourn you dearly. The many lives you touched in different ways are brooding your absence, the widows you husband are mourning yet again. Your life is an emulous to a many of us as we draw and tap courage from it. It is our prayer that the Lord Almighty prepares you a place of peaceful repose in his bosom.

We shall miss you High Chief!
We shall miss you Opuda!

Farewell Father to many, Farewell till we meet on that glorious day to part no more.

I know that no matter what
You will always be with me.
When life separates us
Iโ€™ll know it is only your soul
Saying goodbye to your body
But your spirit will be with me always.
When I see a bird chirping on a nearby branch
I will know it is you singing to me.
When a butterfly brushes gently by me so care freely
I will know it is you assuring me you are free from pain.
When the gentle fragrance of a flower catches my attention
I will know it is you reminding me
To appreciate the simple things in life.
When the sun shining through my window awakens me
I will feel the warmth of your love.
When I hear the rain pitter patter against my window sill
I will hear your words of wisdom
And will remember what you taught me so well
That without rain trees cannot grow
Without rain flowers cannot bloom
Without lifeโ€™s challenges I cannot grow strong.
When I look out to the sea
I will think of your endless love for your family.
When I think of mountains, their majesty and magnificence
I will think of your courage for your country.
No matter where I am
Your spirit will be beside me
For I know that no matter what
You will always be with me.

I have never had a mentor, but you, I want to tailor my life and its works like. I know where you rest with your Heavenly Father peacefully, that you would continue to direct my path. Your shoes are too big to fill, I can only hope that I can achieve this feet, before I leave this world.

Farewell to my Father, Mentor and the Last
Don.

Your Loving Son

In trying to describe High Chief O.B Lulu- Briggs, I am short of words.

The first time our paths met was at Harbour road when he gave me a helping hand through Helen Briggs. Opuda is beyond all reasonable doubts "One in a Million". .

He is extremely observant, attentive to details, a great listener, compassionate to a fault and humble.

Without discrimination, Opuda gave everyone a helping hand. His honest commitment to human rights will continue to serve as a beacon of hope, not just for the Niger Deltans but indeed all over Africa beyond the shores of Nigeria.

I can boldly say, "we have lost an Icon, but his legacy lives on".

Truth be told, it's too hard to say good bye! For we deeply love you Opuda! And your memories will never be forgotten .

Opuda! We but have your footprints to walk on, and earnestly pray that every deposit you have left in us through your uncommon Philanthropism we shall no doubt continue in such direction.

Rest in Perfect Peace, our Divine Gift of inestimable value.

TRIBUTE TO A MAN OF THE PEOPLE; HIGH CHIEF OLUNWA BENSON LULU-BRIGGS

I heard the name, O. B. Lulu-Briggs as a teenager, and at a point I became very fascinated by the glorious and spectacular stories that come along with the name. Of course, the testimonies of great men are incomplete without salt and pepper yet the element of truth remains unbreakable. Every mention of his name got me even more thrilled by his personality and overwhelming testimonies of his goodness and achievements. For the High Chief, no sweat will follow the task of gathering tributary thoughts; indeed, his footprints are from here till sunday; they are near and far, and they carry his legends of excellence in the way he lived his earthly life as a mortal. With due regards for his innumerable services to mankind, he didn't give me money or gold but he gave me Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs; he gave the world himself in a Dumo form; he refused to part with his goodness to mankind, so he chose to live on with legacies that will survive the Earth's tremors and the endless span of eternity. High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs lived well and died well.

May God Almighty guide the living; his wonderful family with the blessings of peace, love and progress as we hope and pray that his beautiful soul finds rest at the bosom of his Maker. Amen!

In Africa a giant Iroko tree is always a landmark, it defines its environment, it is a reference point. We use it to describe every thing around it. We measure distance by the giant tree, we use it to give directions, we take shelter under the great Iroko tree, it is a place of rest, a place of meeting. It gives succor and identity to the community.

We all know that death is inevitable and yet it is always a shock and a surprise. We take the giant Iroko for granted, for it has always been there, and then one day we turn around, the Iroko, big, strong, and seeming permanent is gone. We see nothing in itโ€™s place. Nothing. Just emptiness, a void.
In the politics, economy, social and cultural life of Rivers state Chief O B Lulu Briggs was such a giant Iroko tree.
I knew late Chief Lulu Briggs as a leader in the National Party of Nigeria NPN through my late father. Chief Briggs was Deputy National Chairman South and a towering figure in the politics of that era.
The achievements, contributions, and impact of Chief Lulu Briggs in politics, business, philanthropy and development of Nigeria will take pages to fill.
The ramifications and impact of his exit on all aspects of our development will equally require pages of material, for his demise is indeed a great loss to our country and our state. He will be greatly missed.
I extend my sincere condolences to his family, particularly his Wife Senyie, and my brother Dumo, for as much as we all feel the loss our Iroko his family will miss him the most.
There is an old red indian native chant that captures the essence of our journey โ€œonly the mountains stand forever, only the Rivers flow forever. A man is born he lives for his time and in the end he diesโ€”-โ€œ.
Chief O B Briggs has indeed lived for his time, a life worthy of emulation and celebration. As we view the empty void created by the fall of this giant Iroko of our time we can only say โ€œFarewell great chief. May your soul find mercy before your creator and perfect rest in the bosom of Abrahamโ€.
